We are pioneers in several areas: Regenerative measures and restoration via algae, seaweed and mussels is uncharted territory in the Baltic Sea. There is a locked in potential for new industries. This requires the development of new cultivation techniques. Product development of the raw material. Simple measurement methods to ensure that increased biodiversity and biodiversity are stimulated.

    Season start up. We have now checked how the harsh ice conditions have affected placement and vegetation this winter. Everything looks good. In the picture you see Joel and some of our prototypes. The temperature was 1.8 degrees Celsius at a depth of two metres. The season on Björkskär has started.

AT BJÖRKSKÄR

The idea of combining offshore wind power with algae, seaweed and mussel farming is not new. However, including increased biodiversity in the process is unique. Together with OX2 and Nemo Seafarms, we have a new scene from which to take ideas into reality.

We call it “event-based research” where we with curiosity and transparency stage and test our ideas below the surface. The place is one of the gems of the Baltic Sea – Björkskär in the northern archipelago of Åland.

52 PROTOTYPES IN THE WATER RIGHT NOW*

During spring 2023 our journey started together with OX2 and Nemo Seafarms. In 2025, a full-scale foundation (a wind turbine rig below the surface) will be in the water. Loaded with all the tools we developed to create a living environment there – under the surface.

*) In 2023 we developed 52 different prototypes located at different depths around Björkskär. 2024 continues our journey with focus and design development of the devices that respond best to the tests. By 2025, a full-scale test will be carried out.
